Emma B. Rosengarten is an art teacher and cartoonist from Evanston, IL. In 2021 she graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and earned a BFA in Art Education with an Emphasis in Teaching. Since 2015 she has been teaching mixed media visual art at camps, synagogues, clubs, public and charter schools, while utilizing an adaptive TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) pedagogy.

Mycology, relationships, anti-zionist Judaism, Yiddishkeit, the food service industry, collective liberation, the City of Chicago, and post-capitalist visions are a handful of concepts queried in her work.

EBR has self-published numerous print works, such as “For Those Actively Seeking to Avoid Misery” (2016 graphic novel), “The Interwoven After” (2021 poetry), “Awfully Temporary” (2021 sketchbook compilation), and "Upstairs Basement Volume 1" (2024 comix compilation). All publications are available as free pdf downloads on this site!

Her comix have been published by Paperclip Magazine, Diminuendo Magazine, fNews Magazine, and Third Estate Art Collective. She is currently conducting research for a graphic novel exploring the history of Jews in Chicago from the 20th century to the present, and teaching Kindergarten - 8th grade art classes at Chicago International Charter School: Irving Park.

EBR is developing a new genre of comix called The Temporal Style, a nonlinear sequential storytelling structure which utilizes visual scaffolding to assert that comix without panels are the most accurate reflection of dreaming/waking life and the passage of time as we know it.

Thank you for being here.

Most sincerely,

Emma B. Rosengarten
